JBL talks backstage pranks, heel heat & making Undertaker break
Eddie Guerrero's influence
Eddie Guerrero not only made me, Eddie Guerrero gave me the angle that not only made me, but took the title off himself. So my whole career I owe to Eddie.
Heel heat in El Paso
I had to have a police escort out of town. They took me all the way to the edge of the city limits and told me, do not come back. We think you will be killed.
I'm sitting there thinking if I live through this [the heart attack angle with Eddie's mom], I'm the hottest heel in the world. That's literally what I'm thinking.
Breaking character
You, my friend, are the absolute closest that anyone has ever gotten me to break character. If I hadn't popped myself, I think I would have had you.
Fit Finlay's influence
Finley single-handedly revived the whole women's division. He's the only one that single-handedly fought for us week after week after week and let us do things.
Backstage stories
I'm going to hit the first white mother that moves. And I thought, 'Hell yeah.' And I thought, 'I'm the only white mother.' And I thought, 'Why would he hit me?' And Ron looks around and he goes, 'Not you.'
Tim White's passing
Tim White was trying to get on our phone call with us. He got mad at us, told us to fuck off, hung up, and then died like two weeks later.
Backstage pranks
I signed Briscoe up for a retirement home in Texas one time. It took him months to get out of it. They'd call me and go, 'Your uncle keeps cussing at us. He uses really bad language.'
Early career
I was the last one hired [in Europe]. And I got hired because Jimmy Suzuki was sitting in his office and he sees my picture and he goes, 'Oh, John's a good boy.' And Otto goes, 'Oh, I take him.'
JBL and Ron Simmons friendship
I won't do anything without Ron [Simmons]. People call me and say, 'You want to do an appearance?' No, I'm not going to get on a plane. Ron's there? Okay, all right. I'll go.
