Dwayne Douglas Johnson came from a wrestling dynasty — his grandfather Peter Maivia, his father Rocky Johnson — and transcended everything that came before him. In the late 1990s he became the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. The catchphrases, the eyebrow, the charisma that could fill any arena in the world — The Rock was not a wrestler who became a movie star. He was a force of nature who happened to excel at both.

The Blue Chipper Becomes a Heel
Debuted as a clean-cut babyface, quickly turned heel when fans rejected the squeaky-clean act. The Nation of Domination gave him an edge. The Rock persona — arrogant, charismatic, referring to himself in the third person — was born from that heat.
1999–2000
The Attitude Era Icon
The feuds with Stone Cold Steve Austin defined the Attitude Era. Their matches at WrestleMania XV and WrestleMania XVII are among the greatest of all time. Every promo he cut was appointment television. "Know your role and shut your mouth" became cultural shorthand for confidence.
2001–Present
Hollywood and the Returns
The transition to Hollywood was unprecedented. No professional wrestler had ever become a genuine A-list movie star. The Fast and Furious franchise, Moana, Jumanji — Dwayne Johnson became the world's highest-paid actor while remaining connected to WWE through legendary returns.

The battle between The People's Champion and The Texas Rattlesnake elevated wrestling to mainstream cultural dominance.
vs Mankind / Mick Foley
The "This Is Your Life" segment remains the highest-rated Raw segment in history. Their feud produced classic matches and one of wrestling's most beloved TV moments. Mick Foley's humanity against The Rock's ego created perfect chemistry inside and outside the ring.
vs John Cena — Once In A Lifetime (Twice)
WrestleMania XXVIII in Miami sold 78,000+ tickets in minutes. The match was announced a full year in advance — unprecedented. The sequel at WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey saw The Rock win the WWE Championship from CM Punk and then lose it to Cena. A two-year storyline that generated historic business.
