Sasha Banks — real name Mercedes Varnado — walked out of WWE in May 2022 alongside Naomi after a creative dispute over their tag team titles. The walkout, which reportedly angered WWE management, led to both women being stripped of the Women's Tag Team Championships and suspended. Banks never returned under the Sasha Banks name.
After departing WWE, she competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, won the IWGP Women's Championship and signed with AEW as Mercedes Moné — "The CEO." Her AEW career featured high-profile matches and TBS Championship reigns, establishing her as a global star free of the WWE system.
