SummerSlam 2026 Is Shaping Up To Be An Absolute War
Pull up a barstool, order a pint of whatever cheap lager is on tap, and let's talk about the absolute circus heading our way this August. We are officially on the road to WWE SummerSlam 2026. The match card is looking like a prime rib dinner served on a paper plate—absolutely delicious, even if the presentation is a little messy.
This is the weekend where storylines either reach their beautiful climax or get dragged behind the woodshed and shot. So let's skip the corporate hype packages and ignore the Triple H point-and-smile photos. We are getting into the real dirt of who is winning what.
We have championships on the line, legacies to be cemented, and at least one match that will probably end with someone spitting teeth into the front row. Here is the unfiltered, raw truth about the match card and my dead-lock predictions.
The Teacher Confronts The Student For The Ultimate Prize
First up is the big one: Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against his former mentor, Randy Orton. The slow-burn heel turn that started back in the spring has finally boiled over. Orton staring just a second too long at Cody’s belt was a warning sign we all saw coming.
Remember when Randy hit an RKO on Cody through the announce table last month? That was pure cinema. It is the kind of betrayal that makes you want to throw your beer at the screen.
Let's be honest, though: Cody’s babyface act is starting to grow a little thin. He has held the gold for over 450 days, and the "finish the story" goodwill has largely evaporated into the Cleveland night. Orton, on the other hand, is doing some of the best heel work of his entire career.
This match will be a masterclass in psychological warfare. Expect Orton to target Cody's surgically repaired pectoral muscle, slowing the pace down to a crawl. But Cody is the golden boy, and WWE is not ready to stop the merchandise machine just yet.
After an intense match lasting 22 minutes, Cody will counter a running punt into a pedigree, followed by three consecutive Cross Rhodes to retain. It is the safe choice. That is exactly why it is a bit of a letdown, but WWE loves its safety blankets.
A Slaughterhouse Classic For The Heavyweight Gold
If you like watching two grown men chop each other until their chests look like raw hamburger meat, Gunther defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Ilja Dragunov is your main event. Gunther has held that title with an iron grip, turning Raw into a weekly clinic of efficient violence. But Ilja Dragunov is a different kind of psychopath.
Dragunov fights like he left his sanity in the locker room. We've seen them beat the holy hell out of each other in NXT UK. Putting them on the big stage at SummerSlam is a dream come true for the hardcore fans.
Dragunov is going to sell like he's been run over by a freight train. Gunther is going to look like a god. However, Gunther’s reign is starting to feel a bit stagnant, like water left in a dog bowl for a week.
This is where the shocker of the night happens. Dragunov will take a beating that would hospitalize a normal human, kicking out of a powerbomb at one to the absolute shock of the champion. He will storm back with a series of machine gun chops, culminating in a Torpedo Moscow at the 25-minute mark.
Dragunov walks out as the new champion. It is the right decision. This will inject some much-needed chaos into the red brand's main event scene.
Tiffy Time Aims To Avoid The EST Roadblock
Over on SmackDown, Tiffany Stratton is defending the WWE Women's Championship against Bianca Belair. Stratton has been absolute money since she won the title. She carries herself like a hybrid of Trish Stratus and a mean girl from a 90s teen comedy.
She is athletic as hell, but her character work is what really sets her apart. Bianca Belair is the ultimate challenger. She is the gold standard of the division who can carry anyone to a classic match.
The concern here is that WWE has a habit of using Belair to squash rising stars just when they are getting hot. We saw it with Charlotte Flair years ago. We do not need to see a repeat of that booking mistake with Stratton.
The match will be a showcase of pure athleticism. Expect Bianca to throw Tiffany around like a lawn dart while Tiffany responds with her ridiculous gymnastics. Belair will hit the KOD, but Tiffany will manage to get her foot on the bottom rope at the last second.
Stratton wins after a rake to the eyes while the referee is distracted. She secures the pin with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever. This keeps the title on the most entertaining woman on the roster and lets Bianca chase the gold a little longer.
The Endless Nightmare of the Women's World Championship
Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan for the Women's World Championship is a feud that has been running longer than some marriages. While the chemistry between these two is undeniable, the constant presence of the Judgment Day is starting to feel like a recurring nightmare. Every single match ends with Dominik Mysterio running down the ramp.
It is killing the momentum of the division. Rhea is the clear favorite here because she is a once-in-a-generation talent. She looks like she could bench press a small car.
Liv Morgan has played her role perfectly as the manipulative underdog. However, her in-ring work still feels a step behind the top tier. Her promos are great, but when the bell rings, she often looks like she is swimming in deep water.
This match needs to be a street fight to hide the limitations and let them just beat each other up. Ripley will take the fight to the outside, powerbombing Liv through the Spanish announce table. Dominik will try his usual shenanigans, but Rhea will dispose of him with a headbutt.
Ripley wins after forcing Liv to submit to the Prism Trap. This ends the feud once and for all. Both women can finally move on to new stories.
A Collision Of Generations In The Midcard
Finally, we have the Intercontinental Championship match between Bron Breakker and LA Knight. This is a clash of two completely different philosophies. You have Breakker, who looks like he was grown in a laboratory to spear people through barricades, and LA Knight, who got over purely on the strength of his mouth.
Knight is the defending champion, but Bron Breakker is a freight train that cannot be stopped. Let's be real: keeping the belt on LA Knight is fine for the crowd pop, but Breakker needs a championship to justify his weekly demolition derbies. Breakker has the intensity of a young Goldberg, but with actual wrestling ability.
This will be a short, explosive sprint. Knight will get his offense in, hitting a Blunt Force Trauma for a massive near-fall. But Bron will recover, hitting three spears in rapid succession.
One of those spears will send Knight crashing through the timekeeper's area. Breakker rolls him back into the ring, hits a military press powerslam, and wins his first major singles title. It is the right move for the future, even if the Cleveland crowd will be unhappy to see their favorite veteran get dismantled.
