Gunther's Intercontinental Championship reign redefined what a mid-card title could mean in WWE. By wrestling main event-quality matches at nearly every premium live event, he elevated the IC title to a prestige it had not enjoyed since the 1990s when stars like Triple H and Shawn Michaels traded it.
