Pull Up a Barstool

Pull up a barstool and pour yourself a double of whatever cheap whiskey is on the bottom shelf. We are sitting here on June 30, 2026, and the pro wrestling industry is running on pure, unadulterated adrenaline. If you aren't currently scratching your head over the latest corporate crossover shenanigans, you might want to check your pulse.

The rumor mill is spinning faster than a classic spinning heel kick. According to sources, Big Bill is officially leaving AEW. His contract is expiring in the next week, and he has already given his notice to Tony Khan's office.

But that is only half the story. WWE is not just signing a giant. They are reportedly planning to reunite him with his former partner, Enzo Amore.

As WrestleTalk recently reported, WWE has been playing the waiting game. They wanted to make sure Big Bill was free from his AEW obligations before finalizing anything. They did not want Enzo as a solo act, preferring to bring them back as a duo.

Look, I've had three beers and I'm ready to scream this from the rooftop: WWE bringing back Enzo and Cass is the most chaotic, beautiful, and absolutely necessary move of the year. If you told me three years ago that W. Morrissey would rebuild himself from the ground up, become one of the most reliable big men on television, and then walk out on Tony Khan to run it back with the guy who defined the NXT golden era, I would have told you to get your head checked.

But here we are. This is a massive gamble. It is also one of the most intriguing developments of the year.

Let's break down why this makes sense and why it might go horribly wrong. Let's start with the big man himself.

The Redemption of the Big Man

Let's look at the facts of Big Bill's AEW career. He came in as W. Morrissey, built himself up, and got in the best shape of his life. He eventually teamed up with Ricky Starks, which turned out to be a brilliant pairing.

They won the AEW World Tag Team Championship by absolute murder. They squashed FTR on the October 7, 2023 episode of Collision in Salt Lake City. That was a statement victory.

They held those titles for 123 days. They defended them against the best teams in the promotion. But then AEW decided to put the belts on Sting and Darby Allin on the February 7, 2024 episode of Dynamite in Phoenix.

That loss started a downward spiral for Bill's momentum. Starks drifted off television, eventually leaving the company in 2025. Bill, meanwhile, was saddled with Chris Jericho's faction.

The Learning Tree gimmick is where good momentum goes to die. Watching a guy who is seven feet tall stand in the background of Jericho's comedy segments was painful. It was a waste of a guy who can hit a boot that looks like it could decapitate a horse.

AEW simply did not know what to do with him after the title run. He sat on the bench for months, completely absent from AEW and Ring of Honor television. He is too good to be a background extra.

Giving his notice was the smartest business decision he could have made. He proved he could hang at the top of the card. Now he gets to take that experience back to the place where he started.

After WWE released him in 2018, Bill hit rock bottom. He had a public seizure at a House of Hardcore show in late 2018. But he didn't let that define him.

He got sober, rebuilt his body, and returned to the ring in Impact Wrestling in 2021 as W. Morrissey. He looked like a brand new man. His matches against Moose and Matt Cardona showed he had developed a real presence in the ring.

He was no longer just a tall guy; he was a main event level performer. He proved that he could carry a match on his own. That is why his treatment in AEW was such a disappointment.

The Enzo Factor

Now let's talk about the guy who is about to be his partner again. Enzo Amore is a polarizing figure. To some, he is the most annoying wrestler to ever step foot in a ring.

To others, he is the most charismatic talker of his generation. Both of these opinions are completely true. He is a microphone wizard who cannot wrestle a lick.

The Work Rate Problem

Let's be honest about Enzo's in-ring skills. They are non-existent. His signature move is getting beaten up for ten minutes until he can crawl to his corner.

He cannot work a standard fifteen-minute match without looking like he is running in sand. But in professional wrestling, work rate is only half the battle. Enzo can talk people into the building.

His entrance promo with NXT and WWE main roster crowds was a massive money generator. People still scream his catchphrases at indie shows. When you pair him with a giant who can actually work, the formula is simple but highly effective.

WWE knows this. Reports say Enzo has been spotted at the Performance Center in Orlando. He has reportedly stopped taking independent bookings.

But WWE refused to pull the trigger on Enzo alone. They knew a solo Enzo run would be a disaster. They needed the big man to complete the equation.

A Proven Formula

Enzo and Cass started teaming up in NXT in 2013. They spent years working their way up, developing a presentation that was completely unique. When they walked out with Carmella, the crowd was already singing along to every word.

Cass would throw Enzo over the top rope with the Rocket Launcher, a move that always got a massive reaction. In the ring, Enzo was the perfect punching bag, taking a beating until Cass could come in on the hot tag. Cass would clean house with big boots and empire elbows, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Can They Reclaim the Magic?

It has been eight years since these two last stood in a WWE ring together. In that time, both men have gone through hell and back. Big Bill's recovery from his personal struggles is one of the most inspiring stories in modern wrestling.

He is a completely different athlete now. He is faster, stronger, and far more mature. He is no longer just a big guy who stands there and looks menacing.

Enzo has also aged, hopefully gaining some humility along the way. His backstage heat in WWE was legendary, leading to his release in 2018. If he can keep his mouth shut backstage and open it only when a microphone is in his hand, this run could be massive.

But that is a very big if. The locker room has changed since 2018. The current WWE roster does not have patience for backstage divas.

When Enzo and Cass were in WWE originally, Vince McMahon was running the creative team. McMahon loved big guys, but he also loved splitting up tag teams prematurely. The decision to turn Cass heel in 2017 was a massive mistake that hurt both men's careers.

Under Triple H, tag team wrestling is treated with a bit more respect. He understands that a popular act does not need to be broken up just to create a mediocre singles run. If Triple H books them, we can expect a much more coherent run.

Let's look at the potential matchups. Think about Enzo trading promos with the top heels on Raw or NXT. Think about Bill trading big boots with the monsters of the roster.

It is a proven formula that WWE loves. It gives the tag team division some much-needed star power. Let's look at the major challenges they will face upon their return.

Here is what they need to watch out for. There are three major hurdles they must clear immediately.

  • Backstage chemistry: Enzo needs to prove he has grown up since his departure.
  • In-ring expectations: Modern tag team matches are fast-paced, and Enzo's work rate must keep up.
  • Creative follow-through: WWE must avoid booking them into a comedy corner once the initial nostalgia pop wears off.

The tag team division in WWE is in desperate need of a spark. We have seen some great matches, but the division lacks teams that the casual fan cares about. Enzo and Cass represent instant nostalgia and instant heat.

Let's remember how hot they were in NXT. They never actually won the NXT Tag Team Championship, which was a crime. They were the most popular team on the brand, but the booking always favored others.

Then they went to the main roster and got over immediately. The crowd reaction at the Raw after WrestleMania 32 was deafening. They were selling merchandise like crazy.

But bad booking and backstage drama ruined it all. The heel turn and the subsequent feud were terrible. The match at Great Balls of Fire 2017 was a disaster.

Then came the injuries and the releases. It felt like a waste of a great act. Now they have a chance to rewrite the ending of their story.

AEW's loss is WWE's gain here. Tony Khan has a bloated roster and often struggles to find television time for everyone. Bill was just another name on a spreadsheet there.

In WWE, he will be a featured star again. The fans will welcome them back with open arms. The nostalgia pop will be massive.

But nostalgia only lasts so long. Once they get past the first month, they have to deliver in the ring. Bill can carry the physical load, but Enzo has to step up.

If they can do that, they will be a top team again. If not, they will be back on the indies before we know it. It is a high-risk, high-reward move.

Personally, I am rooting for them. Big Bill deserves this opportunity after everything he has overcome. Enzo deserves a second chance to prove he belongs.

Let's see if they can catch lightning in a bottle twice. The wrestling world will be watching closely when they make their return. Pour another drink and get ready for the show.
