Pour me a double of the cheapest whiskey in the well and don't bother with the ice. Pro wrestling in July 2026 is a beautiful, screaming car crash.
If you took your eyes off the screen for even ten minutes, you missed a guy in AEW getting cast in a Steven Spielberg flick, a legendary WWE midcarder fighting for his life against mall-dwellers on Twitter, and the very real possibility of Enzo Amore and Big Cass walking back into a WWE arena. Yes, you read that right. The realest guys in the room might be heading home.
The Return of the Realest Guys
According to the latest reports, WWE is looking to bring back the tag team of Enzo Amore and Big Cass. The duo was the most popular act in the company from 2013 to 2017, moving tons of merchandise before their high-profile downfalls. Enzo was released in January 2018, and Cass followed him out the door that June.
Now, they are reportedly on the verge of a massive reunion. As Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, William Morrissey (Big Bill/Big Cass) gave his notice to AEW recently. His contract is expiring this week.
His run in AEW was decent, but he was completely wasted in Chris Jericho's Learning Tree faction. That faction was a complete heat-vacuum, dragging down everyone involved. Bill was supposed to turn on Jericho for a massive babyface run, but Jericho went on hiatus and the program was dropped.
Now, Bill is looking at a WWE return just as he turns 40 next month. Enzo Amore has also been dropping hints, having been spotted at the WWE Performance Center back in May. Enzo recently appeared on the Emilio Sparks podcast and called Cass his brother, comparing their bond to legendary tag teams.
"Big Cass saved my life a million times. He's my best buddy... He's my brother. He's my Hawk. I'm his Animal."
The Rise and Fall of the Original Run
To understand why this reunion is such a big deal, you have to remember how white-hot these guys were. They started teaming in NXT in the summer of 2013. They never won the NXT tag titles, but their entrance pop was louder than any championship match.
When they debuted on Raw the night after WrestleMania 32, the roof literally blew off the building. Their chemistry was perfect. Enzo was the mouthy, charismatic cruiserweight who took all the punishment.
Cass was the seven-foot monster who cleaned house with big boots and empire elbows. But the booking decisions in 2017 split them apart, leading to a feud that culminated in a match at Great Balls of Fire. Cass won that match in five minutes, but the split ruined both of their careers.
After the split, Cass suffered a severe knee injury during a street fight on Raw. Enzo went on to win the Cruiserweight Championship, but behavioral issues and legal scares led to his release. It took years of indie grinding and personal rehabilitation for both men to get back to this point.
AEW's Loss is WWE's Nostalgia Gain
Big Bill's departure from AEW is a massive blow to Tony Khan's midcard, but it is a classic Triple H move to grab him. In AEW, Bill proved he is a far better worker than he was in his initial WWE run. He won the AEW World Tag Team Championship with Ricky Starks, defeating FTR at Collision in October 2023.
His big boots are stiffer, his chokeslams are cleaner, and his promo work has improved dramatically. Enzo has also kept busy on the indies, wrestling as Real1 and holding the 4th Rope Flyweight Championship. While Enzo remains limited in the ring, Triple H has shown a willingness to book unique talkers who can move merchandise.
The crowd will lose their minds when Enzo's music hits and he starts his 'How you doin'?' routine. The nostalgia pop alone will carry them through the first few months.
Spielberg and the Indy Hustle
While Enzo is preparing for a return, other AEW stars are busy making movies with Hollywood royalty. Brian Cage recently returned to AEW after a grueling 15 months recovering from knee injuries. But he didn't just return to the ring; he went straight to a movie set.
Chavo Guerrero helped Cage secure a role in Steven Spielberg's upcoming movie 'Disclosure Day.' As Wrestling Inc. reported, Spielberg liked Cage's audition tape so much that he let Cage pick his co-star. Cage immediately chose his tag team partner, Lance Archer.
The two big men spent three days on set, even chatting about professional wrestling with Spielberg. The legendary director reportedly admitted he wants to attend a live wrestling show soon. It is a wild world where Steven Spielberg is booking AEW tag teams for his movies.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the wrestling spectrum, former WWE star Al Snow is apologizing on X for being grumpy to fans. The drama started when a fan claimed Snow was rude to them in a shopping mall. Another fan complained that Snow was dismissive at a comic con when the fan tried to compliment a recent interview.
As Ringside News reported, Snow did not ignore the backlash, posting a public apology on X. Snow's apology is a rare moment of accountability in a business filled with massive egos. But it also highlights the weird reality of modern wrestling, where veterans are fighting for their reputations on social media over mall encounters.
"As I stated prior I apologize if you may have a negative interaction with me I might have just had a bad day or possibly gotten overwhelmed and over stimulated when you approached me."
The NXT Promo Vault Disaster
Not all wrestling drama happens in public, however. Former NXT star Simone Johnson recently shared a hilarious story about her time in WWE's developmental system. Speaking on 'The Downside' podcast with Gianmarco Soresi, Johnson recalled a promo class that went completely off the rails.
Johnson announced her departure from WWE on January 30, 2026, but her stories from developmental are still making waves. According to Johnson, a developmental prospect cut a promo on an opponent who had 'Trump-supporting allegations.' The runner-turned-wrestler cut a promo and said: 'Why don't you ask your little friend Trump because the last person who said I ran got bombed.'
Johnson said she and her friends immediately shut the computer in disbelief. The promo was cut just three days after the war with Iran started. WWE immediately locked the footage away, ensuring it will never see the light of day.
This is the kind of chaotic behind-the-scenes madness that makes pro wrestling so entertaining. For every polished segment on television, there are ten disasters hidden in the vaults.
The Future of the Division
Bringing Enzo and Cass back is a calculated risk for WWE. Cass is now a seasoned veteran who can carry the in-ring load. Enzo remains a liability in the ring, but his merchandise sales will justify the signing.
Triple H has shown a willingness to book characters who can talk, and Enzo is one of the best talkers of his generation. Whether they can sustain that momentum after the initial shock wears off is the real question. The tag team division in WWE is crowded, but it lacks acts with genuine mainstream crossover appeal.
A reunited Enzo and Cass immediately solves that problem. It is a crazy business, but that is exactly why we keep watching.
