WrestleMania 41 predictions: Cody Rhodes vs The Rock and the part-timer problem
The Biggest Problem with WrestleMania 41
Let's just address the elephant in the room right away. The WrestleMania 41 card is undeniably massive, but Triple H is making the exact same mistake Vince McMahon made for a decade. The obsession with part-time legends dominating the main event scene is stifling the momentum of the roster guys who actually work house shows in Kalamazoo on a cold Tuesday night.
We are looking down the barrel of Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against The Rock. Yes, the box office numbers will be astronomical. Yes, the mainstream media will cover it ad nauseam. But from a purely wrestling standpoint, we all know exactly how this goes.
The Rock hasn't worked a standard singles match of this length in over a decade. That chaotic tag match at WrestleMania 40 was carefully booked to hide his physical limitations. You can only do so many stalling rest holds before the live Vegas crowd starts to turn.
Prediction: Cody Rhodes wins. He has to. If they take the belt off Rhodes to give Dwayne another vanity run, it will completely undo two years of meticulous, character-building booking. Expect a 25-minute overbooked spectacle with run-ins from The Bloodline, Seth Rollins, and maybe even a returning John Cena. It's sports entertainment at its most chaotic, but Cody absolutely must retain.
Roman Reigns vs Solo Sikoa: Tribal Warfare
This is the match that actually feels like a blood feud. Roman Reigns returning as the vengeful babyface "Original Tribal Chief" to dismantle Solo Sikoa's rogue Bloodline faction has been the absolute best long-term storytelling on SmackDown since the original Sami Zayn saga.
Solo has done an admirable job acting as the temporary boss, but the in-ring work simply hasn't always backed up his dangerous presentation. His matches against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton dragged horribly. They relied way too heavily on the Samoan Spike and constant outside interference.
Roman is going to have to carry the pacing of this match heavily. Prediction: Roman Reigns goes over cleanly. The crowd reaction for the first spear is going to blow the roof off Allegiant Stadium. Solo takes the pin, and we finally get the implosion of the new Bloodline, setting up Jacob Fatu to splinter off on his own.
Gunther vs CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship
Now we're talking. This is the match for the sickos. Gunther's reign as World Heavyweight Champion has been nothing short of spectacular, bringing immense prestige back to a belt that previously felt like a mere consolation prize.
He chops guys into mincemeat and wrestles with a brutal, old-school efficiency that nobody else on the active roster can match. CM Punk is the absolute perfect challenger here. The story essentially writes itself: the gruff, unyielding Austrian wrestling machine against the unpredictable, emotional Chicago native.
Punk's promo work has been top-tier since his return, and his ring psychology is still some of the sharpest in the entire business. Prediction: CM Punk wins the title. Gunther honestly doesn't need the belt anymore; he's already established as a permanent main event fixture.
Giving Punk his long-awaited WrestleMania main event moment is simply the right call. Expect a heavy dose of targeted limb work from Gunther before Punk hits a desperate, out-of-nowhere GTS for the three count.
Rhea Ripley vs Liv Morgan: The Final Chapter
The Judgment Day storyline has dominated Raw for well over a year. The Rhea Ripley vs Liv Morgan rivalry has been the emotional core driving the entire faction's drama. Liv has genuinely elevated her game recently, transforming from a plucky babyface underdog into an incredibly hateable, opportunistic heel.
That being said, the booking of Dominik Mysterio in this specific feud has started to wear incredibly thin. The constant interference spots and distraction finishes are getting repetitive. It's time to just let these two women wrestle a brutal, decisive, gimmick-free match.
Prediction: Rhea Ripley destroys Liv Morgan. This shouldn't be a dramatic back-and-forth wrestling clinic. Ripley needs to hit the Riptide within 10 minutes and reclaim her rightful spot at the absolute top of the women's division hierarchy.
The Midcard Squeeze
The rest of the undercard is where things get a bit messy. LA Knight defending the United States Championship against Logan Paul feels completely inevitable. Paul is custom-built to get booed out of the building by a smarky crowd, and Knight is still riding a massive wave of organic, undeniable popularity.
Prediction: LA Knight retains. He hits the BFT, grabs a live microphone, and talks trash while standing directly over a defeated Paul. It's standard babyface booking, but it always works.
As for the Intercontinental Championship, Bron Breakker defending against Sami Zayn is a phenomenal styles clash. Breakker's raw explosiveness against Zayn's top-tier bumping and selling is a proven recipe for a classic encounter.
Zayn taking a mid-air spear is an absolute lock for the post-match highlight reel. Prediction: Bron Breakker retains. He is the immediate future of the company, and beating a beloved, respected veteran like Zayn on the grandest stage cements his undeniable status.
Final Thoughts on the Grandest Stage
WrestleMania 41 is shaping up to be a completely different beast than the Vince McMahon era spectacles we used to endure. Triple H has repeatedly proven he can deliver satisfying payoffs to long-term, slow-burn stories, even if the weekly road to get there occasionally feels repetitive.
The actual bell-to-bell action on this card might not rival an Okada vs Omega Tokyo Dome classic. However, the sheer emotional weight of Rhodes, Reigns, Punk, and Ripley all reaching the violent climax of their respective arcs is what makes this WrestleMania feel genuinely special. Just keep the part-timers strictly in check, and we'll be absolutely fine.
