SmackDown's stop at the Oakland Arena on July 24 made one thing abundantly clear: WWE is intent on loading up the Women's Championship Ladder Match at SummerSlam until the structural integrity of the ring standard gives out. What started as a logical progression has devolved into a multi-car pileup on the ramp.

Adding more participants to a ladder match rarely improves the match quality. It increases spot inflation, stretches out the downtime while wrestlers nap on the outside, and turns what should be a precise title feud into an exercise in traffic management.

The mechanics of the spot fest

Look back at the booking pattern over the last three weeks. Single-person ladder matches work because the spatial geometry makes sense — one champion, one challenger, and clear sightlines for every counter. Expanding this field dilutes the emotional stakes of the championship.

When you have six or seven competitors rotating in and out of the ring, the match loses its narrative spine. Someone takes a back body drop onto a bridged ladder, vanishes for 12 minutes, and magically reappears just in time to tip over a climb. It's predictable workrate logic that treats the title belt as a prop rather than the objective.

Where the booking stumbles

The main issue with Friday's additions is the lack of underlying momentum. Booking a ladder match around spot setups rather than genuine animosity strips away the tension. We are getting setup spots designed for social media clips rather than compelling ring psychology.

If WWE wants this match to land with any weight in two weeks, they need to stop adding bodies and start establishing clear pressing triggers inside the ring. Right now, it feels less like a marquee championship fight and more like an effort to get everyone on the card.

Prediction: A chaotic title retention

Expect a messy 20-minute spot fest with at least two terrifying ladder bridges that don't break properly. The title will end up staying right where it is, but only after a finish that involves three different interferences and zero clean ladders climbed.
