I wish when I had that match with Kevin Owens a couple years ago that they would have sent me down a ring so I could have got some timing and some wind and a lot of things so I could have had a better match with Kevin Owens.
CTE in wrestling
I've said it before, you know, if you work in the business of pro wrestling, you should have a whole lot of concussions and maybe you're doing it wrong... Yes, is CTE a real thing? Yeah, it is. But I just figured as our conversation went... if you've been taught the right way to do what we do, you should not be experiencing full-blown CTE.
In-ring return status
I'm done. I mean, I could go out and do something. I'm not lobbying to do that. But, you know, I guess it's cool that people would still—and there's a lot of people that don't. So the fact that people are still like, 'Hey man, it would be cool to see him do something,' I guess it's an honor.
Cinematic match potential
If an AJ Styles or a young over talent ever decided to pick up the phone and call Steve Austin and do a cinematic style match... I don't know that I want to see a whole lot more of it. But it's almost like a mini movie... I don't think so. I think I'm good.
Scripted promos
I remember when I came back from getting my neck fused, I remember that someone handed me a piece of paper and I'd been gone for, you know, what, about a year. And I said, 'Man, what's this?' They said, 'It's your promo.' I said, 'Man, what the hell is... I don't do this.'
Retirement and aging
I've seen most of the guys that I know are pretty cool. You know, Steve, you mentioned Jim Brown earlier... I retired at 38. Shit, man. That's when you really put it all together here physically. I mean, you would be post-prime, but your mind, that's when your mind is at its best.
Injury update
I had a left knee replacement a little over a year ago. God dang, my leg feels good. I'm glad I got it done.
Career motivation
When I was marketable, yeah, it was a big fuck you. And I did have a chip on my shoulder. And when you've been fighting through bureaucratic red tape and bullshit to try to get a shove, you know, once you start getting it, you don't want to let it go.
Current wrestling product
I don't really watch hardly any TV whatsoever. I follow WWE on IG, so I'll stay current with the clips that I do. I did watch, I think I'm about maybe one or two episodes from finishing season two of Unreal. So I don't know the current storylines.
WWE's 'Unreal' show
I was prepared to really dislike [the show Unreal]. And I do think I really do think they give away too much. But the show is good because the WWE superstars are so good and ain't likable. I got to find out more about the talent.
