AML Wrestling just proved size matters, and frankly, I'm into it
The big man show finally found its rhythm
Pull up a barstool. Pour yourself a double of whatever cheap whiskey is on the bottom shelf. We need to talk about the mess and the glory that went down at the AML Wrestling Giant Among Men show on June 28th, 2026.
If you think independent wrestling is only about guys who weigh 160 pounds doing triple-flip Spanish Flys off the top turnbuckle, you are dead wrong. AML decided to prioritize raw, heavy-duty violence, and for the most part, it delivered a stiff breeze of fresh air into a stagnant scene.
Seeing these larger workers move with actual intent instead of pacing like they are waiting for a bus was a revelation. It reminds me of the old Mid-South days where if you didn't look like you could put a man through a refrigerator, you weren't on the card.
The booking had some serious growing pains
Let's not get carried away with the praise, though. This show had more holes than a screen door on a submarine. Some of the pacing during the mid-card segments felt like watching paint dry on a humid afternoon.
I get it, you want to build drama, but there is a fine line between a slow-burn narrative and a total snoozefest. There were moments where the referee count felt artificially delayed, which is a gimmick that died an ugly death in the nineties for a reason.
When GCW Life of Crime went down in Arizona, people were complaining about the chaos, but at least that show had a kinetic energy that AML lacked during the second hour of their broadcast.
The standouts that kept me from walking out
Despite the filler, the main event delivered exactly what was promised. When you put a group of absolute monsters in a ring, you expect a car crash. We finally got one.
The impact noise alone made the entrance fee worth it. You could hear the mat groaning under the weight of these guys, and honestly, that is the kind of visceral detail you just do not get from the shiny, over-produced nonsense you see on cable television every Monday night.
It reminded me of the glorious stupidity of that Beer City Bruiser and James Ellsworth incident in North Carolina. Sometimes, you just need to see a big guy toss another guy like a sack of rancid potatoes and move on with your life.
The verdict on the Giant Among Men
Was it a flawless clinic in professional wrestling? Absolutely not. There were botches that would have made a local high school gym teacher blush and at least one finish that felt about as satisfying as a sugar-free soda.
However, AML managed to create an identity for this show. They leaned into the "Giant" theme, and in a market crowded with generic "best of independent wrestling" cards, having a specific vibe is a victory in itself.
My biggest concern is the internal logic. You can have all the spectacle in the world, but if the finish of a match contradicts the established psychology of the previous hour, the audience is going to notice. The inconsistencies in the rules during the closing sequence of the night were glaring.
Yet, I left the stream feeling like I hadn't wasted my Saturday night. The final total duration of the show was roughly 210 minutes, which is way too long for a regional promotion, but at least the last half hour kept the energy up.
If they tighten up the production and stop trying to drag out the segments that clearly aren't working, they might have something special on their hands. Until they do, though, it remains a fun, occasionally sloppy experiment that lives or dies by who they book to step into that ring.
Keep the big guys throwing hands. Just maybe trim the fat on the promos next time. Nobody goes to a "Giant Among Men" show to listen to fifteen-minute monologues about honor and destiny. We want to see some heavy hosses go to war.
