The missing pieces in the lead-up to WrestleMania 41
AJ Lee recently voiced her support for the return of two former stars to the active roster. Looking at the current state of the women's division just twelve days out from WrestleMania 41, it is obvious why she feels this way. The star power is top-heavy, leaving the mid-card matches feeling like administrative hurdles rather than high-stakes feuds.
We are seeing too many predictable finishes in recent televised bouts. Between the legal scrutiny surrounding TKO and the pressure to maintain record-breaking financials, the creative team is playing it safe. They are relying on existing archetypes instead of building the next tier of talent to carry the blue brand post-WrestleMania.
Mid-card stagnation and the lack of rotation
The women's division is suffering from a lack of rotational depth. While the main event scene is secure, the booking lacks the technical variety required to keep these PLE buildups fresh. When you look at the match logs from the past month, the average bout duration has plummeted below 8 minutes, which is not enough time to establish a story.
AJ Lee specifically pointed out the need for roster replenishment, which is a stinging critique of the current developmental pipeline. The fact is, the roster lacks the veteran instincts needed to elevate the younger talent currently fighting for spotlight. Instead of relying on the same four performers to carry the airtime, bringing back established hands would allow for better pacing.
The CM Punk factor and corporate tension
The situation isn't helped by the unrest CM Punk hinted at during his last RAW appearance. His comments about the pricing bubble suggest a disconnect between the executive suite and the guys in the locker room. When the talent believes the business model is unsustainable, it trickles down into their performances.
Expect the creative direction to lean heavily into nostalgia at WrestleMania 41. It is the cheapest heat available, but it is a short-term patch on a long-term problem. I predict the women's championship matches will be technically solid but lack the emotional resonance needed to define this era of wrestling, simply because the division lacks the depth to support the current push.
My prediction is that the company will yield to pressure and announce at least one major return before the post-WrestleMania RAW. If they don't, the division will hit a wall by the time we arrive at Backlash on May 9. The current reliance on singular star power is a structural failure that no entrance ramp pyro can fix.
