The road to June ends in Riyadh
Stop me if you have heard this one before: WWE is heading back to Saudi Arabia. As Wrestling Inc reported, the company officially pulled the curtain back on the plans for Night of Champions 2026. Set for Saturday, June 27, the whole operation is moving to the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
If your calendar isn't already a total disaster, clear it now. We are looking at a late June Saturday where you can either be productive or do what the rest of us are doing: rotting on the couch while high-profile title matches play out on a screen. It is the kind of event that usually features enough pyro to be seen from space and title defense stakes that make every pinfall attempt feel like an eternity.
Meanwhile, the weekly grind does not stop
While the WWE news cycle is dominated by the Saudi announcement, the actual in-ring action has been absolute chaos. If you missed AEW Dynamite this week, you missed Samoa Joe walking back into the mix. Portland brought the heat, but the contrast between developmental projects like EVOLVE and the main roster machine is becoming sharper by the day.
The WWE Performance Center guys are busy taping matches for Tubi, and honestly, the bullrope violence we saw on the April 22 broadcast was a nice palate cleanser. It is not all big stadium spectacle; sometimes you just need to see guys beat the hell out of each other in a controlled space. However, let's be real: watching a tournament get butchered because of an injury, like Jun Saito having to forfeit in AJPW, is a massive buzzkill. Seeing the field open up for guys like Suzuki is cool, but a bracket collapse is never the look you want.
Is the schedule getting too packed?
We are sitting here on April 24, looking at a schedule that is frankly intimidating. We have Backlash hitting us on May 9, and then AEW has Double or Nothing looming at the end of the month on the 24th. The sheer volume of content is staggering, and by the time June 27 rolls around for Night of Champions, the loyal viewer base is going to be exhausted.
There is also the matter of the sports crossover. With the UCL semi-finals kicking off in just 4 days, wrestling fans are going to be forced to choose between international soccer theater and the squared circle. It is a genuine booking challenge when you have to compete with the biggest games on the planet.
- WWE Night of Champions: June 27
- AEW Double or Nothing: May 24
- WWE Backlash: May 9
Let’s call a spade a spade: the travel demands on these performers are brutal. Pushing international dates like the Riyadh show while running weekly television in North America is a recipe for burn-out. The promotion needs to nail the card quality because the novelty of these massive international events is going to wear thin if the mid-card feels like a chore.
If you think this is slowing down, guess again. With Collision spoilers already hitting the wires for April 25, the treadmill is moving faster than ever. Pour yourself a stiff drink, keep your remote handy, and prepare for a long summer of screen time. Just don't blame me when you wake up on June 28 with a headache the size of a title belt.
