WWE Draft 2026: Why Raw just became the show you can ignore
The Monday Night Problem
The 2026 WWE Draft was supposed to fix the creative stagnation on Raw. Instead, the front office treated the brand like a dumping ground for underutilized talent while hoarding the main event star power on SmackDown.
Moving Bron Breakker to the blue brand is a massive tactical error. Breakker was finally finding his groove as a powerhouse heel on Monday nights, delivering that spine-tingling spear to Ilja Dragunov at Backlash that reminded everyone why he is the future of this business.
Now that he is on the same show as Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa, his momentum will evaporate into the mid-card ether. Raw needs a credible monster, and by shipping him off, the writers have left the red brand feeling like a glorified house show.
The NXT Factor
The only saving grace of this shakeup is the aggressive promotion of the NXT class. Bringing up Giulia and Trick Williams adds some much-needed electricity to a roster that felt like it was running on fumes since WrestleMania 42.
Watching Trick Williams work a crowd is reminiscent of watching peak Rock or Stone Cold. He connects in a way that modern technical wrestlers simply cannot, though his transition to the main roster often results in watered-down booking.
If they try to force him into a tag team or a comedy gimmick, it will be an absolute disaster. History proves that WWE often neuters NXT call-ups by stripping away the character quirks that made them stars in the first place.
The Losers' Circle
The biggest loser of this draft is undoubtedly Chad Gable. He has been chasing a singles title for years, yet the promotion keeps shuffling him between brands without giving him a sustained push or a signature victory over a top-tier champion.
He is technically the best worker on the payroll, but he is currently 0-4 in major title matches over the last calendar year. Seeing him relegated to an opening match spot on Raw while less capable performers get the spotlight is infuriating for anyone who appreciates actual wrestling ability.
Meanwhile, Gunther remains stranded on SmackDown with no clear challenger. He has held the title for 412 days, and the draft did absolutely nothing to build a credible threat to his reign.
A Tired Format
Drafts used to feel like seismic shifts in the industry. Now, they feel like administrative chores performed to reset the matchups for the next three months of television.
We have seen the same patterns play out since the 2016 brand split. The creative team creates a vacuum of interest on one show to build up the other, rather than trying to make both brands feel like destination viewing. This is exactly why WWE official press releases almost always oversell the impact of these roster changes while the actual product remains stuck in a loop.
Until they stop treating the draft as a way to hide flawed booking, the shows will continue to feel disconnected. If you are a fan who values consistency over chaotic roster shuffles, this year's results are nothing more than a disappointment.
