We saw some chaotic booking during this show. The chain on a pole match between DJ Powers and Eye Black Jack felt like a throwback to the worst of mid-2000s television. It slowed the momentum of the card to a crawl. If they want to be taken seriously as a top-tier indie, they need to cut the gimmicks that rely on slow climbing and focus on the technical wrestling that built their reputation.
The tag team turmoil
The tag team title picture remains a mess, in the best way possible. Watching The Stetson Ranch lock horns with Brad Hollister and his mystery partner served as the anchor for the night. Hollister knows how to work a crowd, but hiding his partner's identity until the final bell is a trope that only works if the payoff justifies the secrecy.
The promotion feels like it is scrambling for identity while the bigger promotions are aggressively expanding their live event schedules. WWE is cramming more dates into the summer, which pulls eyes and budget away from the smaller circuits. Wrestling Open is trying to counter this by leaning into tournament narratives and local prestige.
Predicting the trophy collector
I am looking at the bracket for that Women’s Championship. The talent pool in Worcester is deep, but the booking suggests they have already tabbed their centerpiece star. Without naming names, look for the wrestler who has consistently worked the main-event slots of the last four shows.
My take? They crown the first champion in the next few weeks at the showcase event. It is a bold move to put that much weight on one tournament, but as the results from May 14th show, they are running out of options to keep their growth trajectory moving north.
