He debuted on SmackDown in 2021, became Vince McMahon's on-screen protégé, won Money in the Bank in 2022, and held the United States Championship for 234 days in 2022-23. The on-screen relationship between Austin Theory and Vince McMahon defined his early career in ways that were both a platform and a ceiling. Playing the golden boy gave him visibility but not credibility. When Theory had to stand on his own — without the chairman's protection and endorsement — was when fans started paying attention to what he could actually do in the ring. The US Championship run was the answer.
